1. Why be rational?  Whatever your values, rationality will
support them better.

2. An unsuccessful attempt to be rational may lead to harm.  For example,
if an attempt to formulate values has led to a certain formulation,
then pig-headed optimization of this parameter may lead to an
undesirable result.  This is not the fault of rationality per se
but shows that the initial formulation was unsuccessful.
